How to Disable WhatsApp Read Receipts (Blue Check Marks)

This tutorial will show you step by step how to disable read receipts (blue check marks) on WhatsApp on an Android phone and Windows Phone (Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile).
When you turn off read receipts (double blue ticks), your contacts will not know when you've read their messages.

WhatsApp lets you know when your message is sent, received and read.
This will be indicated with check marks.
What the check marks mean:
- One check mark means that the message is sent.
- Two check marks means that the message is received.
- Two blue check marks means that the message is read.
If you don't want your contacts to know when you've read their messages, then you can easily disable read receipts (also known as "read status" or "read notifications").
But:
When you deactivate read receipts, you also can't see the read status of your contacts.
Note: You can't turn off the read notifications for voice messages and group chats (groups).

These steps work for all Android smartphones, such as the Samsung Galaxy, Sony Xperia, Google Pixel, Motorola, Lenovo, Nokia, Huawei, HTC, LG, and all other brands and types.
1. Open WhatsApp.
2. Tap on the menu button.
For most Android devices the WhatsApp menu button is a physical button on your smartphone located at the bottom left or bottom right and for some devices the menu button is located in the top right corner of the screen. The icon for the menu button will look different on different phones.

3. Tap on "Settings".
4. Tap on "Account".
5. Tap on "Privacy".
6. Turn off "Read receipts" by unchecking the box.

How to Disable WhatsApp Read Receipts (Blue Check Marks) on Windows Phone
These steps work for all Windows Phone 8, 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile smartphones, such as the Nokia and Microsoft Lumia.
1. Open WhatsApp.
2. Tap on the ... located at the bottom right.

3. Tap on "Settings".
4. Tap on "Account".
5. Tap on "Privacy".
6. Disable "Read Receipts" by tapping on the toggle button and changing it to "Off".
