How to open and watch TikTok without sound

Learn how to open and watch TikTok without sound (muted).

TikTok has a setting that allows you to open TikTok on mute. So when you enable this setting, videos are muted by default when you open TikTok. But you can easily turn on the sound of a video by tapping the speaker icon at the bottom right or using the volume buttons on your phone. The steps below will show you how to turn this setting on.

Steps

1. Go to your profile by tapping Profile in the bottom right corner of the app.

2. Once on your profiel, you tap the ☰ menu button in the top right corner.

3. A menu will appear at the bottom of your screen and here you tap on Settings and privacy.

4. Scroll down to the “Content & Display” section and tap on Playback.

5. Turn on the Open TikTok on mute option by tapping it.

TikTok will now open without sound. To turn on the sound of a video, tap the speaker icon at the bottom right or use the volume buttons on your phone.
