Windows 10 Mail: “Account already exists” (solution)

This tutorial will show you step by step how to solve the “Account already exists” problem in the Windows 10 Mail app.

Solution 1

It is possible that your email account has already been setup but not yet set to sync and the following steps will show you how to check and change this setting.

1. Open settings.

2. Click on Accounts.

3. Click on Email & accounts located in the left menu.

4. If your email account is listed here, then click on it.

5. Click on Manage.

6. Click on Change mailbox sync settings.

7. Under Sync options, you must make sure that the toggle button under Email is switched On.

8. Click on the Done button at the bottom of the window.

9. Click on the Save button at the bottom of the window.

Solution 2: Reset the “Mail” app

Another solution is to reset the Windows 10 “Mail” app. This will reinstall the app and revert to its default settings.

This will permanently delete the app's data on your PC, including your preferences and sign-in details.

1. Open settings.

2. Click on Apps.

3. Click on Mail and Calendar.

4. Click on Advanced options.

5. Scroll down to Reset.

6. Click on the Reset button.

A confirmation message will appear.

7. Click on the Reset button again.

Microsoft Windows 10 will now reset the Mail and Calendar app.
