How to reset the Settings app in Windows 10 and 11

Learn how to reset the Settings app in Windows 10 and 11.

If the Settings app isn't working right, not opening, or crashes a lot, then resetting it may fix the problems you have with this app.

Windows 10

1. Click on the Windows start menu button.

2. Right-click on Settings > More > App settings.

3. Scroll down to the Reset section.

4. Click on the Reset button.

A window will appear with a message that says that the app's data will be permanently deleted.

5. Click on the Reset button to continue.

Windows 10 will now repair the Settings app. It will automatically restart the Settings app.

Windows 11

1. Click on the Windows start menu button.

2. Right-click on Settings > App settings.

In Windows 11, you have a repair and reset option. I recommend using the repair option first, and if you're still experiencing problems with the Settings app, you can use the reset option.

4. Click on the Repair button.
