This tutorial will show you step by step how to burn a password protected data CD or DVD in a few different ways using free and paid software.

Burning an encrypted disc is a great way for keeping your secret data safe from other people.

If you want to burn your secret data (e.g. documents, videos, pictures, audio, or other files) to a CD or DVD and you don't want other people to have access to your sensitive, shocking or confidential content, then you should burn them to a password protected (encrypted) data CD or DVD.

1. Insert an empty CD or DVD into the CD/DVD-burner of your PC.

2. Open Ashampoo Burning Studio.

3. Go in the left menu to "Burn Data" and choose "New Encrypted Disc".

4. Click on the + button (located at the top right).

5. Go to the location on your computer where the files and/or folders are stored that you want to burn to your CD or DVD with password protection.

6. Select the files and/or folders and click on the "Add" button (located at the bottom right).

Tip: at "Estimated size on data disc" located at the bottom of Ashampoo Burning Studio you can view how much free space you have left on your disc.

7. When you are finished adding files and/or folders, click on the "Close" button (located at the bottom right) to close the "Add Files and Folders" window.

8. To remove files or folders, just right-click on them and choose "Remove".

9. At "Title" (located at the top right) you can enter a title for your disc. To enter or change the title: enter a title and click on the "A/B" button.

10. When you are finished adding files and/or folders and entering a title, then click on the "Next >" button (located at the bottom right).

11. Enter the password of your choice in the field located underneath "Password" and re-enter the password of your choice in the field located underneath "Confirm Password" for confirmation.

Note: Don't forget your password! If your password is lost, the stored data cannot be recovered.

12. Click on the "Next >" button (located at the bottom right).

13. Now you will have the following optional options:

Ashampoo Burning Studio will now burn your files and/or folders to a password protected (encrypted) data CD or DVD.

How to Create & Burn a Password Protected CD or DVD using DeepSound & Windows

With DeepSound you can hide your secret files into music songs and burn them to a CD or DVD which can be played on every CD or DVD player.

So you CD or DVD looks and works like any other music CD or DVD.

And to extract your files from songs you will need your password.

DeepSound also enables you to extract secret files directly from your music songs.

DeepSound supports encrypting files using AES-256 (Advanced Encryption Standard) to improve data protection.

This is also the tool that Elliot uses to hide his files in music CDs in the television series "Mr.Robot".

You can encrypt and hide your files and folders in songs using DeepSound and then burn them to a CD or DVD using the built-in burning function of Windows.

DeepSound requires Microsot .NET Framework 4.

1. Hide Files in Audio

1. Open DeepSound.

2. Click on "Open carrier files".

Carrier files will be the music songs that will carry your secret data.

3. Go to the location on your computer where the music songs are stored.

4. Select the song(s) and click on "Open".

The amount of songs that will be needed to hide your files depends on the file size of your files and the file sizes of the songs.

If you click on a song you will see at "Free space for secret files" how much MB you have for hiding your files in the selected song.

If you have a lot of files or large files, then you will need to devide the files over multiple songs.

5. Click on a song to select it.

6. Click on the "Add secret files" button.

7. Go to the location on your computer where the files and/or folders are stored that you want to hide in the selected song.

8. Select the files and/or folders and click on "Open".

If you have a lot of files, then click on the next song and repeat step 7 till 9.

9. When you are finished adding your files, then click on the "Encode secret files" button.

Now a small "Encode secret files" window will appear.

10. Select (check) "Encrypt secrect files (AES 256)".

11. Enter the password of your choice at "Password" and re-enter the password of your choice at "Confirm password".

12. Click on the "Encode secret files" button.

DeepSound will now hide your files in your song(s) and after that you can burn the song(s) to a CD or DVD.

2. Burn Music to a CD or DVD in Windows

1. Insert an empty CD or DVD into the CD/DVD-burner of your PC.

2. Go to the location on your computer where the songs are stored.

3. Select all the songs.

4. Right-click on the selected songs, go to "Send to" and choose your CD/DVD burner (example: DVD RW Drive (E:)).

Now a small "Burn a Disc" window will appear.

5. Enter a title for your disc at "Disc title".

6. Select (check) "With a CD/DVD player" and click on "Next".

The songs will now be copied to your CD/DVD burner station.

And:

Your CD/DVD burner will open in a new window. If not, then you can find it in "This PC" or "My Computer" or in the left-sidebar of "File Explorer" or "Windows Explorer".

7. When you're finished copying music to your CD/DVD writer, then click on "Drive Tools" (located at the top) and choose "Finish burning".

Windows will now burn your CD or DVD.

3. Extract Secret Data from Music Songs

1. Insert your CD or DVD into the CD/DVD burner/player of your PC.

2. Open DeepSound.

3. Click on "Open carrier files".

4. Click on the CD/DVD station.

5. Select the song that contains your secret data and click on "Open".

6. Enter your password and click on "OK".

7. Click on the "Extract secret files" button.

DeepSound will extract your files from the song. You will need to these steps with every song that contains secret data.

How to Create & Burn a Password Protected CD or DVD using 7-Zip & Windows

7-Zip is a free file archiver for compressing files and extracting compressed (zipped) files, but can also be used to password protect (encrypt) files and folders.

You can encrypt your files and folders using 7-Zip and then burn them to a CD or DVD using the built-in burning function of Windows.

1. Create Encrypted Folder

1. Create a new folder.

2. Copy all the files and/or folders that you want to burn to your CD or DVD with password protection into the folder you've created.

3. Right-click on the folder, go to "7-Zip" and click on "Add to archive".

4. Choose "zip" or "7z" at "Archive format".

5. Enter your password twice at "Encryption".

6. Make sure that "AES-256" is selected as encryption method.

7. Click on "OK" (located at the bottom).

7-Zip will now compress and encrypt your folder. You can burn this folder to a CD or DVD.

2. Burn Encrypted Folder to a CD or DVD in Windows

1. Insert an empty CD or DVD into the CD/DVD-burner of your PC.

2. Go to the location on your computer where the encrypted folder (.zip or .7z file) is stored.

3. Right-click on the folder (.zip or .7z file), go to "Send to" and choose your CD/DVD burner (example: DVD RW Drive (E:)).

Now a small "Burn a Disc" window will appear.

4. Enter a title for your disc at "Disc title".

5. Select (check) "With a CD/DVD player" and click on "Next".

The folder will now be copied to your CD/DVD burner station and your CD/DVD burner will open in a new window. If not, then you can find it in "This PC" or "My Computer" or in the left-sidebar of "File Explorer" or "Windows Explorer".

6. Click on "Drive Tools" (located at the top) and choose "Finish burning".

Windows will now burn your CD or DVD.

3. Decrypt Encrypted Folder

To decrypt an encrypted file you can use any file archiver program, like WinRar, WinZip, 7-Zip or you can use the Windows built-in file archiver program.

1. Insert your CD or DVD into the CD/DVD burner/player of your PC.

2. Open your data CD or DVD.

3. Copy the encrypted zip or 7z file to your computer.

4. Right-click on the encrypted zip or 7z file, go to "7-Zip" (or another file archiver program) and choose "Extract here" or "Extract files".

5. Enter your password and click on "OK".
