How to Protect Your PC against Virus, Malware & Spyware

Protect Computer from Viruses Spyware and Adware

Free Anti Virus, Spyware & Malware Software

A computer virus is a executable computer program that can copy itself and can spread from computer to computer. A computer virus may damage your computer hard disk or can make you're computer not work properly.

There are many different ways to get spyware, viruses, and other malware like:

  • Downloading illegal software, music, or movies.
  • No antivirus, spyware or malware software installed on your pc.
  • Visiting wrong, unreliable or suspicious websites like some porn websites.
  • Not having the latest updates for Microsoft Windows or other operating systems and programs on your pc, because most updates are security updates.

Some points that indicate that your computer may be infected by spyware, viruses, or other malware are:

  • Computer runs slower than usual.
  • Computer stops responding and crashes frequently.
  • Computer crashes and restart every few minutes again.
  • Computer restarts by itself and fails to work properly.
  • Applications on your computer don't work correctly.
  • Disks or disk drives are unreachable.
  • You see unusual error messages.
  • You see strange menus and dialog boxes.
  • Annoying messages appear on your computer screen.

Spyware and Adware don't technically fall under the virus or spam category. These programs may invade your privacy, contain malicious code and can be annoying when using a computer that is connected to the internet.

Adware is considered as a legal alternative offered to people who don't want to pay for software. Software, games or pc tools can be created, downloaded and used as freeware. Some freeware may block features and functions untill you pay to register it. Many software developers create sponsored freeware, it means that the program, game or tool is free, but you will see advertisements usually in a small section of the program, game, tool or as a pop-up ad box on your computer's desktop. Normally when you uninstall the software, the ads should disappear. This allows you to try the software first like a demo, and when you purchase a registration key, you will get an option to disable the advertisment. So usually when you stop using the free software, the adware will automatically go away.

Spyware does not necessarily spread in the same way as a virus or worm because infected systems generally do not attempt to transmit or copy the software to other computers. Instead, spyware installs itself on a system by deceiving the user or by exploiting software vulnerabilities. So most spyware is installed without the users knowledge, or by using deceptive tactics. Spyware may try to deceive users by bundling itself with desirable software.

Spyware can be experienced in unwanted search toolbars in your browser, a changed homepage (often porn websites), added unwanted favorites in your web browser bookmarks and many advertising pop-ups. Your computer system will also get slower because the installed spyware usually startup with your PC and sometimes your pc system can get unstable.

How to Detect a Virus or Spyware on Your PC

The best way to see if your pc is infected by a virus is to open an anti virus or anti malware program and run a full system scan to scan all files on your computer for a virus.

How to Remove a Virus or Spyware

If your antivirus program detects a virus, spyware or malware on your computer, you will get a message with the question to move the virus to quarantine or to delete the infected files. Both options are good.

When the Anti Virus & Malware program don't Detect a Threat

After scanning your computer with a antivirus or antimalware program and there is no threat detected then it's possible that your computer isn't infected by a virus, but maybe has a software, driver, or hardware related problem.

Still Having Problems ?

When you are still having problems by an infection, then it's best restore your system image if you have one. If you don't have a system image, then it's better to reinstall your operating system.
